The theme for Learning 2.014 Africa will be:
A safari is a journey of exploration. That really is what learning is all about. In Learning 2.014 we’ll be taking a safari through some fascinating areas of the modern world of education. We’re emphasizing three main areas of a Learning Safari:
Like any good journey, we’ll be exploring new educational terrain. Some of it will be completely new to people, while others may have heard about the region. We’ll have expert guides who – like all good safari guides – have good local knowledge so can be seen as experts, but are also explorers themselves – constantly on the lookout for new insights or new knowledge.
In any journey, you travel beyond the region in which you’re comfortable. Sometimes the conditions get rough and you need to change your techniques to make sure you don’t get bogged down. Sometimes you’re far from civilization and you need to either create something new or adapt the equipment you have so that you can continue to function well under the local conditions.
When you travel, you connect with the people, culture, country, etc. in your travel destination …and with your traveling companions. In our Learning Safari, we’ll make connections with our fellow voyagers, our guides, and the local people and places. These connections will make our journey a lasting experience.
